How to wash your Down jacket without altering its legendary volume? How to protect the noble materials that make up your children's wardrobe? The Nobility of Materials: Each model has its own secret

Our Workshop’s advice: Every creation Tartine et Chocolat is unique. Before starting any care ritual, we invite you to carefully consult the composition label sewn inside your piece. It contains instructions specific to your model to help you maintain its beauty and softness year after year.

Down and Natural Feather

Used in our hottest models, like the Down jacket Bi-material Navy, Grey anthracite Imitation fur, Purple anthracite Imitation fur… down and feather offer incomparable thermal insulation. It is this filling which gives this “cloud” appearance so sought after. Down is a living material that requires air to maintain its insulating power. This is the secret of the lightness of our models intended for extreme cold.

High Precision Technical Wadding

For our more urban or reversible models, like the Down jacket long Navy, Taupe or the Down jacket syears green sleeve, syears sleeve Navy, or even Belectric leu, we use synthetic wadding Top of range. They imitate the structure of down while offering increased resistance to humidity and great ease of use.Care, ideal for the daily life of juniors up to 12 years old.

Signature Details

Pay particular attention to the finishes: the Buttons in real mother-of-pearl, the zips Goldens of the Down jacket Bi ecru material, the Down jacket Navy Embrodery English, the badges Embroidereds or thePrint exclusive Garda which we find for example on our Down jacket Navy Water-repellent. These details are the signature of our House and require delicate handling so as not to lose their shine.

Anticipation: Waterproofing, the Invisible Shield

We don't always think about it before the first wash, but waterproofing is the step that extends the life of your Coat. Our fabrics, like those of parka Water-repellent, receive treatment Water-repellent in the workshop. However, with time and friction (the backpack for older children, the stroller harness for Babys), this protection may fade.

Workshop advice: Apply a specific waterproofing spray (silicone-free) to your Down jacket clean and dry. Spray from about 20 cm evenly. This not only prevents water from penetrating, but also creates a barrier against greasy stains and dust. Waterproofed clothing is clothing that gets dirty less quickly!

The Preparation Ritual: A Gesture of Precision

We do not place a Down jacket Water-repellent or a Coat Gray heather for example machine without careful preparation.

-Empty pockets : Children are treasure collectors. Check that no stones or little secrets are hidden there to avoid tearing the Lining.

-Protect the Accessories : Systematically remove fur trims (real or synthetic) using delicate pressure. The fur should never be immersed otherwise it will become rough.

-Close to protect : Pull up the zippers, close them Button-pressure and velcro. This prevents the metal parts from scratching the delicate fabric during the cycle.

-Turn the garment inside out : Always wash your Down jacket on the reverse side to protect the shine of the iconic colors (Blue powdered, Pink sugared almond or Grey Pearl).

The Serenity Option: Why Choose Dry Cleaning?

For our most luxurious down jackets or those with intricate details, we highly recommend using a professional. Dry cleaning oraqua cleaning in dry cleaning guarantees that the down of your Down jacket Navy or Taupe for example does not clump. This is the "zero stress" option for parents who want to guarantee the Longavoided from an heirloom piece. We recommend professional cleaning at least once a year, ideally at the end of winter.

Home Washing: Mastering Gentleness

If you prefer to maintain your Down jacket at home, the golden rule is low temperature.

The choice of laundry detergent

It is essential to use a liquid detergent for delicate laundry. Ban the fabric softener : it greases the feathers and technical fibers of our models like the Down jacket Bi-material Navy or anthracite, making them lose their precious “spring”.

The Ideal Program

Select a cycle "Wool" or "Delicate". The temperature must be 20°C or 30°C maximum. Water that is too hot could weaken the fabrics and shrink the invisible seams.

The Tennis Ball Tip

For large models, place two clean tennis balls in the drum. They will “massage” the Down jacket during washing, thus preventing the filling from settling prematurely.

The “Cloud” Spin: Respect the Feather

Spinning is a sensitive step. A Down jacket saturated with water is heavy. Spinning too violently (beyond 800 revolutions) would exert such pressure that the feathers could break. We recommend a gentle spin at 600 rpm. It's the perfect compromise: fast enough to drain excess water from your Down jacket, slow enough to respect the fragility of the filling.

Drying: Bringing Softness Back to Life

This is the step that often causes the most apprehension, and yet it is crucial. Contrary to popular belief, drying in the open air is not recommended because the feathers risk drying in clumps and losing their heat.

The secret? Tumble dryer at low temperature. Choose the “Delicate” or “Low temperature” program (40-50°C maximum). By adding two clean tennis balls, the movement will "beat" the down. Take it out Down jacket every 30 minutes to shake it vigorously. Once completely dry, your Down jacket must have regained all its airy lightness.

Wintering: Preparing the Cloakroom for the Summer

Once winter is over, storage is the final step to ensure that the Down jacket of your Kid will be as good as new the following year.

Preliminary cleaning : Never store a Down jacket which has not been cleaned. Organic stains (food, perspiration) can oxidize and become indelible over time.

The choice of cover : Absolutely avoid airtight plastic covers or vacuum bags. Down needs to breathe. Favor a cotton fabric cover or a large canvas bag that protects against dust while allowing air to circulate.

Do not compress : Hang it Down jacket on a wide and solid hanger so as not to mark the shoulders. If you have to fold it, do so without packing it down. A feather compressed for too long eventually loses its elasticity.

Natural protection : Slip a small sachet of cedar or lavender into the cover. In addition to delicately scenting the garment, this protects natural materials from moths in an ecological way.

Mistakes to Avoid: The Little Memo

Never iron : The heat of the iron would melt the synthetic fibers of our technical fabrics.

Drying on hanger : One Down jacket wet is heavy; hanging it would cause all the down to fall towards the Bottoms.

The burning radiator : Direct heat can irreparably damage the delicate outer fabric.

Rushed storage : Always wait 24 hours after drying to ensure that no residual moisture remains in the heart of the feathers.

A Down jacket well maintained, it is the promise of a thousand and one outings in the fresh air, well sheltered from the cold. By taking care of these precious pieces, you preserve not only their warmth, but also the memories of the first slips and complicit laughter under the snowflakes.
